The work must be different from the artist | 2016
For four weeks I worked in a defined space similar to a cell, with artificial light like night with no day. The space, although constructed as a personal private place, exists within a public environment, which furthers the sense of „between,“ existing on a border. The surrounding space becomes an important component in the work, and in the difference, or distance, between the work and the artist. Through bodily performance using a simple rule and set perimeters, the work becomes a presentation of my research and discoveries on the questions “how must the work be different from the artist?” and “what does it need?”
The work is the Artist, and the Artist is more than the work, and the work is more than the Artist.
